About this blank:
- This approximately 10.25" square x 1.9" thick Cherry blank is the perfect starting point for creating a beautiful serving platter or a thoughtful handmade gift. You can also turn a pedestal base to transform it into a cake stand.
- Crafted from hand-selected, kiln-dried Cherry, this blank is designed for quality and consistency. For the best turning experience, use sharp tools when working with dry wood and resin. We recommend Acrylic/Resin tools when cutting through epoxy-and-wood areas. Check out our video to see the exact tools we used!
- This blank can be used with a pressure pot, though excellent results can also be achieved without one. For best results, seal the walls of the routed design to prevent resin from weeping through (we like Amazing Sealer from Alumilite). If you prefer, you can also cut along the outer circle to create a smaller platter instead of filling it with resin.
- The center point is pre-marked to help you easily align your tailstock when mounting the project. If you prefer the design without the center circle, you can mount the blank, remove the center point, and pour. Just be sure to support the blank to prevent tipping while the resin cures.
Routed Design Details:
-
Center routed depth: 0.76"
-
Outer routed circle: 1.75" deep, 10" outside diameter, 9" inside diameter
-
Resin capacity: approximately 26 oz of your epoxy resin mixture (tinted to your preferred color(s))
Special Note:
We do not recommend using urethane resins. We exclusively use and have tested epoxy resin (such as Total Boat Tabletop Epoxy, though similar products work as well).
To maintain stability and minimize movement, we recommend turning this platter within one month of receiving it.
Please be aware that wood turning can be hazardous depending on the apparatus and user proficiency. By purchasing this wood blank, the buyer waives us of any and all responsibility in the event of injury or harm resulting from turning it on a lathe. Note that California State has identified wood dust as a carcinogen. Minimize exposure to wood dust by using a dust mask or other protective measures.
