About This Unique Blank
- Create a stunning hybrid bowl with this round Maple turning blank—perfect for displaying, gifting, or adding to your own collection.
- The routed design features a 1/2" wide slot at 1.75" deep, holding approximately 10–12 oz of your tinted epoxy resin mixture. This blank can be used with a pressure pot, though excellent results can also be achieved without one. For best results, seal the walls of the routed design to prevent resin from weeping through (we like Amazing Sealer from Alumilite).
- Crafted from premium, hand-selected, kiln-dried hardwoods, this blank offers superior performance and consistency. For the best results, use sharp tools when working with dry wood and epoxy resin. We recommend Acrylic/Resin turning tools—such as this kit—for this project.
- These blanks arrive already round, eliminating the need for roughing.
- Mounting is simple with a threaded glue hub and hardwood waste block. Part through the waste block—not the bowl blank—so you avoid unnecessary wood loss. No tenon, no screws.
- The center point is pre-marked to help you easily align your tailstock when mounting.
- Special Note: We do not recommend urethane resins. We have only tested and use epoxy resin (such as TotalBoat Tabletop Epoxy, though other epoxy brands also work).
To maintain stability and minimize movement, we recommend turning this platter within one month of receiving it.
Please be aware that wood turning can be hazardous depending on the apparatus and user proficiency. By purchasing this wood blank, the buyer waives us of any and all responsibility in the event of injury or harm resulting from turning it on a lathe. Note that California State has identified wood dust as a carcinogen. Minimize exposure to wood dust by using a dust mask or other protective measures.
