The new Adjustable Tool Rest System keeps all your Simple Woodturning Tools properly aligned with the lathe centerline, maintains the correct tool angle, and provides solid support.
This combination ensures that the cut occurs at the exact point where the wood is moving straight down. As a result, all cutting forces are transferred directly into the cast iron lathe bed instead of your hands and arms—allowing you to enjoy nearly effortless cuts, beautiful clean chips, and an exceptional surface finish.
Here’s how it works:

- Initial Height Setup: Use a pointed drive center in the spindle and the ½" square shaft of any full-size Simple Woodturning tool as your height gauge. Place the tool on the rest and adjust the platform height until the top of the tool shaft aligns perfectly with the point of the drive center. Securely tighten the locking collar to lock in your baseline.
- Swapping Tools: As you change tools, refer to your tool rest spacer guide and place the appropriate color-coded spacer under the locking collar to automatically set that tool to the proper height.
- Inside Hollowing: Always remember to add a yellow spacer to those recommended under the locking collar whenever you transition to turning the inside of your project.
Following this straightforward process keeps all tools within 1/32" below the centerline during outside turning, and within 1/32" above the centerline when hollowing the inside.
The Adjustable Tool Rest post gives you more positions, more flexibility and solid tool support while turning.
Our revised Adjustable Tool Rest builds on the original design with a thicker 5/8" platform and multiple adjustable positions, giving you the flexibility to position the rest where you need it for different project sizes and turning operations.
Originally designed to provide solid tool support during hollowing, this rest is now useful throughout the entire turning process. The platform can be adjusted from hole to hole, allowing you to move the rounded end of the rest closer to your project, and position the post under your tool for better tool support.
The center post position provides support for outside roughing, while the multiple mounting positions make it easy to adapt the rest to different shapes and sizes.
The post features wrench flats for additional leverage, along with a high-strength cap screw for secure clamping. A clamping collar is also included to help maintain the rest's height when making adjustments to the banjo.
Choose from multiple post sizes, including a new longer post designed for larger lathes such as the Harvey T-60 Turbo and Grizzly G0766.
