How Deep Can You Hollow?

This system accepts most turning tools with a 1/2" round handle tang. If your tools match this size, they’ll seat about 2.5" into the tool holder—meaning your hollowing reach will be about 3" shorter than the tool’s total length.

  • Our longest compatible tool is the 16" Simple Shear Cutting Finisher, giving you an approximate 13" hollowing reach.

    • 5/8" round stainless steel shaft

    • 1/2" round handle tang

  • All other full-size tools measure 12" long and provide up to 9" of hollowing depth.

    • Standard: 1/2" square stainless steel shaft

Which Tools Fit the Hollowing System?

This system is compatible with:

  • All full-size Simple Woodturning Tools® & Simple Scrapers
    (Identified by engravings: SR, STH, SSNH, S90D, S55D, SSCF, Simple Scrapers)

  • The new longer Simple Scraper IV – recommended with the new flat tool rest

  • Any tool with a 1/2" round handle tang

  • Mid-size tools using the optional 1/2" to 3/8" SHS bushing

  • 5/8" round tools using the optional 5/8" tool holder

This system includes the articulating arm, laser assembly, all mounting hardware and full size Simple 90° Detailer tool (S90).
All other tools and optional holders/bushings are available separately.

What the Laser Does

The laser provides constant visual feedback of your cutting location, helping you achieve a precise wall thickness every time.

  • You set the laser so its dot is offset from the cutter by your desired wall thickness.

  • As you hollow, the laser follows the cutter.

  • When the wall reaches your target thickness, the laser dot will fall off the edge of the vessel—simple and reliable.

Fits Practically Any Lathe

  • Works with nearly all lathes with split-bed ways—including mini lathes.

This system can be used for turning both inside and outside surfaces, making it especially valuable for turners who must sit or who have difficulty firmly holding traditional tools.

When will my order ship?

  • We ship as soon as possible - most of the time within 24 hours of order placement. (Orders placed on Friday after 10am CST, Saturday or Sunday will ship Monday)
  • You will receive an e-mail with tracking from us when your order ships.
  • All orders ship from Ramsey, Minnesota.
  • ALL orders shipped through the USPS are not guaranteed to be delivered within the window that they promise. The USPS does not offer guaranteed delivery on Priority Mail packages, so we will not issue postage/shipping refunds if they do not deliver on time.   • International orders: Shipping cost will be calculated during checkout and will NOT include your local duty and/or customs fees. If you choose UPS, they will not deliver until these duty/taxes are paid.

I'm a local customer, can I pick up my order?

  • Yes you can. We just need time to pack your order. Please place your order online and add notes during checkout that you want to pick up the order. Usually pickup orders are ready the next day. Orders placed before 10am CST may be ready the same day. We will contact you when ready.
  • Our pickup hours are Mon-Thurs 8:30 am - 4:00 pm. Friday 8:30 am - Noon. 
  • Pickup Address: 7101 143rd Ave NW Suite O Ramsey. We are in the Energy Business Park located just off Highway 10. Please look for 'Harrison Specialties' on the sign outside the front door.
